Dayspring Baptist Historical Highlights
“Through the tender mercy of our God, whereby the dayspring from
on high hath visited us,” Luke 1:78
Dayspring Baptist Church was organized May 15, 1884 by Rev. Charles Middleton, a member of Bethel Baptist Institutional Church. The Church was located on the corner of Bloxam and Clay Streets.
The church grew from 16 to 800 members within the next 35 years. The land for 1053 Jefferson Street was purchased in 1894 and a frame structure was originally erected and served as the church edifice for 46 years. Through the years many improvements and enhancements were added to the 1053 Jefferson Street location.
In the year 2000, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, much prayer and the exercising of faith, the Dayspring congregation was led to move from its current location. On December 10, 2001, God blessed the church with approximately 28 acres of property at 5654 Dunn Avenue.
The accomplishments of our church through the leadership of our esteemed Pastors have been many. Many persons have experienced positive growth and souls have been saved during the 121 years of Dayspring’s existence. We pray that God will continue to strengthen and bless us. For we believe that……….
